National Medical Device Make-a-thon Mentorship
It’s always fun to help the next generation of engineer and challenge their approach with rapid prototyping.
I was invited to help provide some industry insights as a mentor to 30 students groups competing in the 2026 National Medical Device Make-a-thon. With me was Anil Siva Kuma Mehala and Mohammad Sajawal, who provided clinical and qualitative insights. I was focused on making sure the competitors know how to clearly communicate the problem (ie. patient dies), present their solution (ie. patient not die), and show how to explain their device in a simple but satisfying way. I wish I was able to give them more insights and tips and trips with rapid prototyping / fabrication / CAD design, but there was too little time so I had to improve what they gave me. Regardless, it was a good fun.
